In Te Reo Māori, the indigenous language of New Zealand, Auckland is Tāmaki Makaurau, and our country is Aotearoa – “the land of the long white cloud”.

In 175 years Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland has grown from a sparsely populated colonial town at the far side of the world, into a modern city of nearly 2 million people.

It continues to grow by attracting a huge diversity of people from across the globe. They come for the clean air and water, safety, stability and access to the outdoors that make Auckland a fantastic place to live, work, and play.

Deeply connected with Auckland University of Technology

AUT (Te Wānanga Aronui o Tāmaki Makau Rau) is New Zealand’s second largest university (29,000 students) and the country’s only dedicated university of technology. It has a proud heritage of teaching and research going back to 1895, when it was formed as the Auckland Technical College. AUT proudly celebrates this applied heritage, continuing to focus on applying ‘knowledge with purpose’.
